  • 2 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp ground cardamom
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk and yeast; let sit for 5 minutes. Mix in butter, sugar, eggs, orange zest, cardamom, and salt. Gradually add flour until a soft dough forms.
  2. Transfer dough to a floured surface; knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth. Shape into a ball and place in a greased bowl. Cover and let rise in a warm place for about an hour.
  3. Roll risen dough into a rectangle about half an inch thick. Spread with softened butter, sprinkle with sugar and cardamom, then roll tightly into a log.
  4. Cut the log into equal pieces about an inch wide and arrange on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Cover and let rest for another 30 minutes.
  5. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake buns for 20-25 minutes until lightly browned. Cool slightly before serving.
